Sleepers of the Cave

Abu Darda reported Allah's Messenger as saying: “If anyone learns by heart the first ten verses of the Surah Al Kahf, he will be protected from the Dajjal”. (Sahih Muslim 1766) ‘The Sleepers of the Cave’ is a four part lecture that covers the stories narrated in Surah Al Kahf. First there is the story of the sleepers of the cave who slept therein for a long period, this is more than a story it is a Sign from Allah. Then there is the story of the mysterious teacher who shows Musa (AS) how life itself is parable and the importance in seeking knowledge. We are then told of those who get sucked in to the glitter of this life, the story of the Two Gardens. And further there is the story of Dhul-Qarnain, the powerful ruler of west and east, who made an iron wall to protect the weak against the strong. These stories refer to the trials and tribulations humanity will face, uncertainty, and vanity of this life. There are many lessons to learn from this surah, which can only be understood through patience, humbleness and the fullness of knowledge.

The Prophet of Allah Dawoud (AS)

Dawoud (AS) was not only a renowned Prophet of the Israelites but he was also their king. He is one of the Prophets of Islam, to whom the Zabur (Psalms) was revealed by Allah. Prophet Dawoud's worship, prayer and fasts were preferred over all the Prophets. He was known for many fine characteristics Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) stressed two qualities in particular and they were Prophet Dawoud’s praising of Allah and his eloquent voice when he was reciting. "Indeed in their stories, there is a lesson for men of understanding" [Qur'an 12:111]

Tribes of Yemen

Tribes of Yemen is a brief historical breakdown of some of the infamous stories found in the Quran and other revealed books. The speaker traces the lineage of the renowned Arab tribes going right back to the great kingdom of Sheba. This lecture is key to understanding the intricate relationships between the Arab tribes that influenced the outcome of many conflicts. This would be a great starting point for anyone studying the Seerah of the Prophet (PBUH). It takes the listener from the tribes of Yemen right up to the historic events that occurred in the year of the Prophets (PBUH) birth, including the destruction of the kingdom of Sheba, The story of the Boy and the King, the elephant army of General Abraha and more

Stories from Surah Yaseen

Muhammad Bashar Shala enlightens us with a reflection of a story from Surah Yaseen, Chapter 36. A man known to Islamic tradition as ‘The Believer of Yaseen’ depicts a motivating story about the importance of staying steadfast at a time of ignorance and tyranny. When his people rejected the callings of not just one but three Messengers, this truly remarkable man abandoned Shirk and engaged in the duty on every Muslim- giving Da’wah. His love for his people empowered him to spread the word of the Messengers, regardless of the consequences. A truly moving story that captures the essence of reaping the precious rewards from Allah.

Dr Bashar details the lives of the four greatest men who lived after the Prophet Muhammad (Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), the Caliphs of Islam, the rulers of the Islamic Empire that swept across Arabia, Asia, Africa and even so far as Southern Europe.
